Courtyard Epiphany (Deck -> Paving)

We didn't think were influenced by the display home out at Gledswood Hills, mainly because it was very white inside and very stark.  We wanted a more rustic or organic feel to the house.  But after an epiphany last night I realised that we were heavily influenced... by at least one thing and that was the courtyard design.  We loved the decking and loved the idea of the ability to walk out from within the house to a private courtyard.  Although we did want to 'cover' the courtyard with some sort of clear roof (yep it'd be hot but we were going to put shading in and have it raised above the house roofline and tilted so that the heat would escape...) it was lead from the display home.  In Charles' version of the courtyard it was a mix of paving and grass and garden beds...

Here are a few photos of the display courtyard or "Alfresco" area as they like calling it:

And in terms of what it looks like on a floor plan?  Here it is as a refresher:
Taken from the Sekisui Site in Nov 2014 after the original linked one disappeared...

Our plans are a bit different to this now but generally the same layout.

Anyway... we have asked to have quoted PGH Cadman feature bricks in this area and have all the doors to be stacker doors with colonial bars (black) and will likely have some proper lights and some coach lights too.  When the plans came back with a concrete slab for the courtyard we were still thinking decking and were thinking they were wasting our money by putting down a slab... but last night I was thinking we should pave or do something more rustic for the courtyard!
And the added benefit is if it is concrete slab we can leave it for a while till we get the other deck installed before having to do something to do it make it usable as it would be concrete.
The rear deck was going to have to wait but now we can probably do it before the courtyard floor covering to get it started.

The courtyard can then have recycled bricks or cobblestone paving or stamped concrete put in.
