Power Poles and another $1500...

Power Pole 1, 2 or 3?

In our demolition plans it's never been indicated we needed to remove the power poles on our property but we have had previous conversations with someone who came onto the property to do an assessment sent out from Sekisui House indicating that power would be run underground and that we wouldn't need one or two of the power poles.

After a few more emails back and forth from Sekisui this week we find out they want us to remove two of them.

However about a week ago we asked Optus to remove their connection/box and we told them we want to reconnect it when we move back in and to leave it in a state that would make it less costly and easier for us to be reconnected.  So they coiled it up on the power pole closest to the house:

But now we need to remove that pole.

So if power is being run underground surely running a conduit for underground Optus shouldn't be hard.  Optus even has some details on their site about it.

Whilst not hard... it's going to cost us $1500 for the privilege.  When it would have been 'free' if we kept the poles.  I don't doubt it will look better underground... I'm just thinking $1500 is a whole lot of cost we don't 'see' the benefits of really.

Yes it's only money... but it adds up!

And this back and forth with Sekisui House is quite annoying as we're not the experts but it doesn't seem like they are either!  Jess, our CSO has been great but she's learning about this stuff too.  It seems quite astounding that there isn't a bit more guidance.  I suppose that's the difference between a smaller builder and a large company that has silo'd things so many times.

On another note we went to the HIA Home Show today and Home Demolitions was there too.  So we spoke to the guys there to get a gauge on when the demolition will happen.  This week!  Exciting!
